VIOLENCE, POVERTY AND SOCIAL INEQUALITY: THE CHALLENGES OF SCHOOLS TO RESOCIALIZE PRISONERS IN BRAZIL

Abstract

Nowadays, Brazil has been experiencing the problem of overcrowding, with high rates of criminal recidivism and violence within prisons. Therefore, looking for solutions to change this scenario, education in prisons has been highlighted in discussions about this scenario, as it presents itself as an important instrument for this professionalization and resocialization of inmates to happen. Therefore, the theme addressed in this research aims to investigate how the process of educational management of the penitentiary system occurs, as well as its role in guaranteeing education as a human right and constituent for social reintegration. To this end, the methodology used for this research was a theoretical essay, which consisted of a critical and succinct investigation of the literature on the topic. Therefore, it is concluded that education is an important instrument of resocialization, progress in skills and construction of knowledge, enabling the prisoner to have a better future within the prison and also after serving his sentence.
