Abstract

This study aims to analyze the impacts that the practice of vaquejada can cause to animals, describing the legal protections. Regarding the methodology of this study, it comprises a descriptive research, with a qualitative approach, where the bibliographic survey was carried out over a period of time, from 2017 to 2023. This present study brought a very significant basis that is to better understand the debates that revolve around the constitutionality of sports vaquejada, considering that, in Brazil, it was considered an illegal practice by the Federal Supreme Court in 2017. Upon concluding this study, it was found that it is necessary to encourage public debate on the topic and seek solutions that combine the preservation of cultural traditions with the protection of animals. It is important that society, legislators and those involved in the practice of sports vaquejada work together to find viable and ethical alternatives, guaranteeing the welfare of animals and the preservation of cultural manifestations.
