VIOLENCE AGAINST LGBTI+ PEOPLE: AN EPISTEMOLOGICAL ANALYSIS BASED ON THE POSTULATES OF KANT AND DESCARTES

Abstract

This text aims to provide an epistemological narrative based on Kant and Descartes' postulates regarding violence against LGBTI+ people. To this end, the main characteristics of the LGBTI+ population were listed, encompassing the concept of violence against this group. Subsequently, the main postulates of Kant and Descartes were articulated with violence against LGBTI+ people. In light of Kantian philosophy, violence against LGBTI+ people represents a clear violation of human dignity, disrespecting the principle that every human being should be treated as an end in itself. From a Cartesian perspective, with its focus on reason and autonomy of thought, it demonstrates that prejudices against the LGBTI+ population are based on unfounded and irrational beliefs that do not withstand critical analysis. Thus, by confronting violence against the LGBTI+ community with the philosophical principles of Kant and Descartes, this study reaffirms the importance of an ethics based on unconditional respect for human dignity and the promotion of rationality as a basis for social coexistence.
