This article delves into the premise that literacy, being crucial, fosters reading and writing skills, enabling individuals to decipher and manage the writing system with ability. Essentially, it encompasses the intelligence of the connection between graphemes and phonemes, facilitating the decoding of words and the attribution of meaning to their readings. Progress in reading and writing stems from the conjunction of multiple brain sectors, student effort, and inventive pedagogical proposals in the educational environment. Thus, the teacher acts as a preponderant figure, assisting as a guide and devising tactics that engage the pupil and gradually solidify knowledge. Given its magnitude, this article aims to investigate the most prominent literacy methods in the Brazilian educational landscape, intending to capture their specificities and what they add to the learning and teaching process. The methodological approach uses a bibliographic review of what has been written, in which synthetic and analytical methods emerge as highly sought-after paths. It is concluded that understanding these aspects allows for reflection on their contributions to education, assisting in the selection of teaching resources that best meet the students' most promising needs, culminating in full and effective literacy.
