analyzes the relationship between linguistic variation, identity, and Portuguese language teaching in the National Common Curricular Base (BNCC), aiming to understand how the document guides pedagogical practices focused on recognizing linguistic diversity in school contexts. This is a qualitative bibliographic and documentary study, based on a critical reading of authors from linguistic and educational studies, as well as on the examination of BNCC skills related to the topic. The results show that the BNCC acknowledges the importance of linguistic variation and of combating linguistic prejudice, while also encouraging work with different language practices and discursive genres. However, the document still presents gaps regarding the didactic operationalization of these guidelines, which may lead to divergent interpretations and inconsistent pedagogical approaches. It is concluded that Portuguese language teaching needs to articulate the standard norm, social uses of language, and identity construction in order to promote a critical, inclusive, and socially situated language education.
