The ecological footprint (EF) of transportation is mainly related to the actions we perform in our daily lives, that is, it refers to the environmental impacts generated by our activities every day. Thus, the EF of transportation is one of the greatest threats to ecological balance, as it accounts for a significant share of greenhouse gas emissions, profoundly impacting the environment. In this context, this study aimed to analyze the perception of high school students and teachers in the State of Pernambuco regarding the Ecological Footprint and the environmental impacts associated with the transportation sector. In addition, it sought to reflect on the challenges of sustainable mobility in the Brazilian context, relating the data obtained to the need for integration between environmental education, urban planning, and public policies aimed at reducing gas emissions. The methodology adopted consisted of a literature review and data collection from official sources, and online questionnaires conducted for high school students and teachers in the state education network of Pernambuco. The results of the interviews indicated a dependence on individual transportation due to safety and comfort, but they believe that to change this scenario, in addition to exploring other sources of renewable fuels, more oversight by the responsible authorities is necessary, as well as projects carried out in schools. In this context, it becomes essential for the public authorities, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Transportation, the Federal Highway Police, and the State Highway Police to take a cautious approach and coordinate continuous educational actions with the aim of promoting mobility with sustainable responsibility.
