SUICIDAL PHENOMENON AND THE PROFESSIONAL ROLE OF SOCIAL WORKERS: A LITERATURE REVIEW IN THE FIELD OF MENTAL HEALTH

This research has the general objective of analyzing and pointing out the scientific production on the theme of the suicidal phenomenon, making a cut with the work of the social worker in the mental health policy. The methodological route followed the qualitative research approach, of the bibliographical type, through the Literature Review, guided by the approach of Historical and Dialectical Materialism. The result pointed out that the theoretical-critical framework should guide professional practice; welcoming, listening and qualified observation are considered important by users; the social worker needs to remain in continuous training; the phenomenon of suicide must be included in the research and disciplines of the Social Service Course. The conclusion of this investigation revealed that the intervention of the social worker in mental health, with a focus on the suicidal phenomenon, requires investment in critical theoretical knowledge, in the particularities of the dimensions of the profession and in the observance of the ethical-political project of the profession.
