Film analysis is a historiographical tool that can be used to promote the dissemination of history and culture and enhance the teaching of historical content. In this context, this work aimed to demonstrate how a national film can contribute to the understanding of the history and culture of the Bissau-Guinean people. To this end, a film analysis of a feature film was carried out in order to uncover aspects of the sociocultural context of Bissau-Guinean society. The research was developed through a bibliographic study, complemented by a qualitative film analysis. The results revealed that the film Clara di Sabura can be interpreted from a structuralist perspective, insofar as the values, meanings, and worldviews presented therein are constructed from a logic based on social and gender inequality. This article is expected to encourage educators and other professionals in the field of education to use cinematic works as pedagogical tools in disseminating knowledge about the history and culture of the Bissau-Guinean people.
