Reading is one of the most effective tools for intellectual and professional emancipation. Through reading, individuals develop cognitive, communicative, and critical skills that enable them to act autonomously and responsibly in the world of work. This article aims to analyze reading as a formative tool capable of contributing to professional independence and the development of critical awareness. The methodology is based on a bibliographic review grounded in authors such as Paulo Freire, Isabel Solé, Ângela Kleiman, and Ezequiel Theodoro da Silva. It is concluded that the practice of reading, when developed critically and meaningfully, promotes autonomy, strengthens professional identity, and expands the possibilities for ethical and creative action in contemporary society.
