Inclusive education constitutes a fundamental principle for building a fairer and more equitable society, grounded in human rights and the appreciation of diversity. In this context, the work of the Libras interpreter emerges as a central element for ensuring the inclusion of deaf students, enabling equitable access to information and knowledge. This article aims to analyze the role of the Libras interpreter in education, highlighting the challenges faced in their practice, the importance of linguistic proficiency in both languages — Libras and Portuguese — and the ethical commitment that underlies communicative mediation. Through a theoretical and historical reflection, the paper discusses the interpreter’s role not only as a translator but also as an agent of inclusion and social transformation.
