Objective: This study aims to analyze and compile evidence regarding proprioception in preventing the risk of falls among elders. It talks about a systematic review made through databases from CAPES and PubMed. Methodology: The research was made considering the following keywords: equilibrium, physical exercises, elders, proprioception and falls. Results: About 843 articles were found and after analysis 25 were selected. Discussion: As people get older, the probability of falls increases from the gradual physiologic changes of the cells, tissues and organs. So, in comparison with younger adults, the elders are more vulnerable to deficiencies in balance, gait, strength, cognition, vision, hearing or increase of the use of medications. Conclusion: It was possible to conclude that proprioception contributes to fall prevention in the elders, promoting a healthier and safer aging.
