Despite the recognition of the importance of assistive technologies, there are still substantial gaps in research and pedagogical practices related to their implementation and effectiveness in health sciences education. This study consists of a narrative literature review aiming to analyze the use of assistive technologies in the context of health sciences education, identifying the barriers faced and the perceived benefits. A search was carried out in databases such as Scielo, Lilacs and Google Scholar, as well as the CAPES theses and dissertations portal, using descriptors related to assistive technologies and health sciences education. The results highlight a variety of barriers and challenges encountered in the use of assistive technologies, such as the lack of continuing education, high costs, and lack of device accessibility. However, significant benefits of these technologies are also pointed out, including the promotion of autonomy, improvement of quality of life, and social inclusion of students with disabilities. Thus, the research findings demonstrate the importance of assistive technologies in health sciences education and emphasize the need for broader and more inclusive approaches to overcome the identified barriers. The conclusions provide valuable insights for educators, researchers, and healthcare professionals interested in promoting inclusive and accessible education.
