This article sought to outline the profile of nursing students, identifying the main factors that interfere with the learning process. This is a cross-sectional study with a descriptive-explanatory classification and a qualitative-quantitative approach. The results showed that 43.3% of the students dedicate between 1 and 2 hours a day to studying; however, research shows that students who spend an average of 3 to 5 hours a day do not make mistakes in their assignments. 56.7% report that the number of teachers who encourage them to search for and buy books varies between 0 and 4. However, studies show that, in most cases, the deficit in pedagogical development is based on the gap between reading and the student. It was also observed that 60% of the students reported that the majority of teachers use active methodologies, which shows that the use of these resources serves as a way of improving the quality of the institution's teaching and the students' learning, given that good performance in the teaching-learning process occurs when the students take the lead in this process. The study showed that the main factors affecting the teaching and learning of the students in the study are related to the students' educational background, time spent studying, the type of methodology used and the lack of participation in monitoring, extension projects and scientific initiation.
