The present work is a systematically bibliographic review that approaches and has as its main objective to analyze issues related to freedom of expression, article 13 of the American Convention on Human Rights and the crime of contempt, since this crime offends the freedom to express ourselves. For this, the work was divided into three topics, initially, we will address the fundamental rights and guarantees and the American convention on human rights. Next, the concept of the crime of contempt and its consequences will be described. Finally, a discussion is made from the confluence between contempt and freedom of expression.. Where it is concluded that it is crucial that the application of the crime of contempt is done in a careful and proportionate way, avoiding excesses and ensuring that the right to freedom of expression is preserved. The present work seeks to contribute to the academic environment, as well as to readers who are interested in the subject.
