PROFILE OF FOOD POISONING IN PEDIATRIC PATIENTS ASSISTED AT THE HOSPITAL MUNICIPAL DO LONGONJO FROM DECEMBER 2020 TO APRIL 2021

Food poisoning is one of the health problems caused by the ingestion of water or food contaminated by bacteria, viruses, fungi, toxins and chemicals, contamination can occur during the handling and preservation of food. The present study aims to characterize the profile of food poisoning in pediatric patients assisted at the Longonjo Municipal Hospital. This is a retrospective, descriptive study with a qualitative-quantitative approach. We analyzed the processes of patients diagnosed with food poisoning at the Longonjo Municipal Hospital, from December 2020 to April 2021. The study identified the profile of food poisoning in 91 patients, 45% due to seizures, 32% vomiting, 13% asthenia, 10% diarrhea. As for age, 13% were aged 1 to 3 years, 19% from 4 to 6 years, 25% from 7 to 10 years and 45% from 11 to 14 years of age. Regarding the area of origin, 54% were from the rural area, 34% from the suburban area and 12% in the urban área. Thus, the clinical evolution of patients identified in the study was observed, where 58% were discharged after recovery, 34% were hospitalized and 8% died. It is concluded that the most observed clinical manifestations in patients with intoxication were seizures, vomiting, diarrhea Mostly from the rural area with 54%, attended mainly in the period of the month of December, with 41%, with an evolution of 58% by improvement after the service.
