This article analyzes community policing as a legal competence of the Military Police forces in Brazil, in light of the 1988 Federal Constitution and Law No. 14,751, of December 12, 2023. The object of the research focuses on the legal configuration of community policing within the constitutional duties of ostensive policing and the preservation of public order. The objective is to examine the normative foundations of this competence and its implications for the institutional performance of the Military Police, with particular attention to the context of the State of Amazonas. The methodology adopted is qualitative, with a theoretical and legal approach, based on bibliographic and documentary review, including systematic and teleological analysis of constitutional and statutory norms, as well as specialized doctrine. The results indicate that community policing has an implicit constitutional foundation and was legally consolidated by Law No. 14,751 of 2023, overcoming its former characterization as a merely administrative policy. It is concluded that the legal recognition of community policing imposes a binding duty on the Military Police, strengthening preventive, participatory practices aligned with the principles of the Democratic Rule of Law.
