Abstract

This article sought to investigate the level of knowledge about the practice of neonatal resuscitation in medical students of the Mandatory Curricular Internship of a university hospital, evaluating which points were the most and least mastery of the routine by the academics, in addition to comparing the degree of knowledge about the routine between the four periods that make up the mandatory curricular internship and correlate the level of knowledge with the future area of work of the academic. It consisted of a field study, prospective, quantitative, descriptive, analytical and cross-sectional, with medical interns from the 9th to the 12th period at the University Hospital of Vassouras. As a result, it was verified that approximately half of the students (54%) have minimal knowledge about neonatal resuscitation, having more difficulties in questions such as: the time of clamping the umbilical cord of a NB; the practice of cardiac massage; the use of orotracheal tube and on intubation. The study concludes that the theme is not strongly mastered among the students surveyed, which could lead to a lack of medical training. Thus, interventions are considered necessary in the field of practice of academics in the mandatory curricular internship so that they acquire greater mastery over newborn care.
