Abstract

The present study concerns the use of antidepressants in adolescence due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, it aims to conceptualize the terms "adolescence" and "depression", in order to point out the possible psychic and emotional impacts, when they coexist in the subject who experiences the pathology during this phase and to describe the results of the consumption of this medicine by adolescents during this period. the pandemic period, whose problem is considerably urgent and important in the discussion about the health of this population. Based on this assumption, numerous scientific works were analyzed, which greatly contributed to the conclusion of this study. We identified the psychosocial causes associated with the pandemic that triggered the use of antidepressants by young people and discussed the dependence caused by the excessive use of this medication in the subjects in question. Finally, we investigated the role and performance of public authorities in mental health care for the young population after the coronavirus pandemic, in order to minimize the psychological impacts caused by this phenomenon that directly and drastically affected the lives of many adolescents in Brazil and in the world.
