Objective: To identify, in the literature, methodologies focused on gamification for teaching in the area of nursing. Method: This is an integrative literature review on methodologies focused on gamification for teaching in the area of nursing. Results: The selected articles revealed aspects that confirm the promising use of serious games by nursing students. The study of a serious game, which dealt with home health care, showed that students saw the tool as a means to become active observers and that it provided them with experiences of action and reflection on their actions, at the same time as provided formative assessments of personal knowledge, skills, and attitudes. Final considerations: There was only one study published in Brazil, demonstrating the need to expand the performance of studies aimed at gamification in nursing education at the national level. It is recommended for future research to carry out studies involving serious games aimed at teaching in the areas of urgency and emergency, child health, adult health and elderly health.
