Abstract

This article aims to reflect on some aspects of non-formal education, having as its guiding axis three texts (what is education; an overflight: the concept of non-formal education and contemporary social movements), studied and discussed on the topic in the classroom, in the subject Education as Culture, from the master’s in education course at a university within the state of São Paulo. The line of thought for the reflection of this work refers to the emphasis on dance and theater as learning modalities in non-formal education spaces. The specific objective is based on the possibility of trying to understand the specificity of non-formal education, in the social and historical aspect in the context of culture, on the assumption of rethinking that education also takes place outside the walls of the classroom. The research results showed that: theater as a modality in non-formal education also has a very close relationship with formal education and professional training when it prioritizes an exercise in bodily expression allied to future insertion in the labor market for its participants. It was noticed that dance in non-formal educational spaces provides learning, respect for others, social interaction, and well-being for its participants, improving their quality of life in society.
