Introduction: Urgency and emergency is a dynamic and highly complex scenario, in which professionals, attention, organization, planning, resources and qualification are required. Most of the time, the people responsible for these units are not prepared and qualified, which makes it necessary to improve the professionals early in the undergraduate environment. This educational qualification process is important for the reduction of errors, such as those that occur in the screening service, and in the improvement of the professionals still in graduation. Objective: To analyze the scientific production about realistic simulation as a teaching strategy for undergraduate nursing studies on urgency and emergency. Method: This is a systematic review study (SR) that sought to research scientific articles on the theme of the importance of realistic simulation in the evolution of nursing students in urgency and emergency. Articles published in the years 2015 to 2019 available free of charge both in English and Portuguese and that address the topic were included. Theses and dissertations were excluded, as well as articles that were more than 5 years old, not related to the objective of this study or that were in other languages. Results: By reading titles and abstracts, and following the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 119 articles were excluded, which were not in accordance with the theme or gave way to the theme. 34 articles were evaluated for eligibility. Of these, 24 articles were in accordance with the theme, being included in this review. Conclusion: The evidence included in this study demonstrated a positive result regarding the insertion of realistic simulation in the training of nursing students as an active methodology. It is an important tool that helps assimilating theory with practice as well as helping in the formation of clinical reasoning and decision making.
