This article aims to discuss, on a theoretical basis, the contribution of Fairy Tales in the development of children, from the age of three, who attend Kindergarten. In order to contemplate the general objective of this research, the work was divided into six chapters, which addressed the following themes: "Introduction", "What are fairy tales?", "Historical context of fairy tales", "The influence of fairy tales on child development”, “Fairy Tales x Child: the teacher's relevance” and “Final considerations”. The methodology in this article is a bibliographic research, as it started from studies carried out in books and websites. The main authors used were: ABRAMOVICH (2006); BETTELHEIM (2007); COELHO (2006) and (2008); FRANTZ (2005); between others. And yet, qualitative for interpreting the facts obtained and not aiming at graphic statistics. It is concluded, from the theoretical framework, the relevance of the Literature of Fairy Tales in Early Childhood Education, helping children from the age of three, in their imaginative, emotional and cognitive aspects, contributing positively to their integral development. Still, the relevance of the teacher during the mediation process between books and children was proven, since they need help because they are not yet literate.
