In this work we aimed to analyze and identify the aspects of problem solving that can contribute to the teaching of mathematics. To carry out this work we had as reference authors such as: Farias, Lacerda and Ferreira (2020); Lacerda (2018); Nunes and Santana (2017); Guerreiro (2015); Ponte, Brocardo and Oliveira (2013); Onuchic and Allevato (2011); Zuffi and Onuchic (2007); Ponte, Abrantes, Fonseca and Brunheira (1999); Onuchic (1999); Nunes and Serrazina (2009) and Pólya (1975). For the application, we conducted two problem-solving questions. This work was carried out in the year 2019, for a class of twenty-four students from a public school in the municipality of Breves-PA. The tasks were intended to contribute to mathematical exploration in relation to problem solving methodology with emphasis on mathematical investigation. The results showed that the students began to enhance the mathematical concepts related to problem solving, as well as interacted with each other exposing their ideas, formulating conjectures and presenting arguments to solve problems involving equations.
