: Literacy already occurs in Elementary School, preferably in the first three years of this stage of basic education, but there is a debate about when this teaching should start. The objective of this article was to investigate trend concepts related to the literacy process in early childhood education. It can be concluded that while one currently values other children's languages and literacy in children's language, the other believes that children are exposed to written language even before entering school, and it is in the school space that this knowledge is systematized.
