Introduction: Sexual violence (SV) is one of the types of violence practiced against women, being considered one of the most cruel and persistent throughout history. Integrative Review: Sexual violence is a crime of great proportion in Brazil, however it is little evidenced in the official statistics: according to the last national survey of victimization, only 10% of the victims report the aggression to the police authorities. Method This article is an integrative review based on bibliographic research formulated through published articles on the knowledge and performance of professionals in the field of "health" on the subject of Rape. Discussion: The word rape comes from the Latin stuprum which means to force someone to have sexual relations against their will, using violence or physical and psychological threats. For this, sexual violence is constituted within a dialogue between social aspects, in a relationship of domination between genders. Results: Among the nuances of gender violence, there is one of its most perverse forms of action: sexual violence. Final Considerations: Despite scientific advances, it is observed that women with different characteristics remain the target of various damages resulting from the condition of being a woman.
