ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AND ITS IMPACTS ON THE PSYCHICAL AND BRAIN DEVELOPMENT OF CHILDREN

Artificial intelligence (AI) has shown rapid growth and an increasingly significant presence in children's daily lives, particularly in the realms of education, information, and social interaction. Given that childhood is characterized by high brain plasticity and the development of cognitive, emotional, and social skills, it is important to understand the potential consequences of using these technologies during this period. This study is an exploratory literature review with a qualitative approach, based on academic works and institutional documents related to artificial intelligence, education, neurodevelopment, child development, and neurorights. The results indicated that AI can assist in personalized learning, educational inclusion, access to knowledge, and the development of pedagogical materials. However, concerns were also raised regarding the excessive use of digital technologies, a reduction in face-to-face interactions, emotional regulation, autonomy, and potential effects on cognitive and socio-emotional development. Furthermore, the study emphasized the importance of preserving children's cognitive capacity and mental integrity in the face of advancements in neurotechnologies. It can be concluded that artificial intelligence may serve as a valuable resource in the educational process, provided it is used ethically, critically, and under supervision, without replacing the human interactions, practical experiences, and emotional bonds that are essential for child development.
