Abstract

Community pollution, caused by inadequate management of solid waste and animal excrement, represents a serious sanitary and environmental problem, especially in peripheral communities (CAPUANO; ROCHA, 2006). The project, developed by medical students with children from the Educandário Santo Antônio, in Duque de Caxias, RJ, used playful and participatory activities to teach the correct disposal of canine waste and excrement. The results showed high child engagement and understanding of the importance of hygiene and environmental responsibility. The study reinforces findings that animal feces can contaminate public spaces and cause diseases, highlighting the need for sanitation and environmental education. The project contributes to SDGs 3, 4 and 6 (ONU, 2015), promoting health, education and sustainability, as well as humanizing medical training and strengthening civic awareness.
