Higher education is a significant social determinant of health, directly linked to improved quality of life and social mobility (Buss; Pellegrini Filho, 2007). This study aimed to analyze the expectations of final-year public high school students regarding higher education and its impact on social reality. It was a descriptive, quantitative-qualitative study conducted with students from a public school in Duque de Caxias, Rio de Janeiro. Structured questionnaires were administered, and a discussion circle was held with the participants. Seventy-six high school students, aged 16 to 19, participated in the project. The results revealed information gaps (91.3%) regarding access to higher education, while also broadening the students' understanding of admission possibilities. The study concludes that educational initiatives can help expand high school students' perspectives on university access, as well as promote health and reduce social inequalities.
