Abstract

This study aimed to characterize the epidemiological, clinical, radiological, and histopathological profile of patients undergoing surgical management of meningiomas at a teaching hospital in Western Paraná from 2020 to 2025. This was a quantitative, descriptive, retrospective, and documentary study based on the analysis of electronic medical records of 110 operated patients. Results revealed a female predominance (76.36%), a mean age of 54 years, and White ethnicity (67.27%). Headache was the most prevalent initial clinical manifestation (44.55%). Most tumors were classified as WHO Grade I (80.91%), with a predominance of the meningothelial (50.91%) and transitional (25.45%) histological subtypes. The most frequent cortical locations were the sphenoid wing (14.54%) and the frontotemporal region (14.54%). Complete surgical resection (Simpson Grade I) was achieved in 43.63% of cases, with a low incidence of severe complications (84.55% without adverse events), an overall recurrence rate of 7.27%, and a mortality rate of 3.63%. The study concluded that surgical management is effective and safe, confirming that WHO histological grade and the extent of resection are key determinants of prognosis and local tumor control.
