THE IMPORTANCE OF THE LUCAS LAW FOR ACCIDENT PREVENTION AND THE PROMOTION OF SAFETY IN THE SCHOOL ENVIRONMENT

Abstract

School safety is essential for guaranteeing the right to education and the comprehensive protection of children and adolescents. In this context, Law No. 13.722/2018—known as the Lucas Law—mandated basic first aid training for teachers and staff at basic education and child recreation institutions, aiming to enhance response capabilities in emergency situations. This study aimed to analyze the importance of first aid training in educational institutions and to evaluate the effectiveness of the Lucas Law. Methodologically, this is a qualitative, basic research study with a descriptive objective, conducted through a literature review and document analysis of relevant legislation and scientific literature on the subject. The results demonstrate that continuous training for education professionals strengthens a culture of prevention, enhances school safety, improves responses to accidents, and contributes to saving lives. However, the findings also reveal challenges regarding the periodic provision of training, resource availability,and the effective implementation of the legislation by educational institutions. It is concluded that the Lucas Law represents a significant tool for promoting school safety, the effectiveness of which depends on the education systems' ongoing commitment to continuous training and the consolidation of preventive practices.
