This article aimed to identify literacy concepts and practices, analyzing their effects on the appropriation of written language by literate children. We found that the literacy teacher's pedagogical work favors the appropriation of the writing system of their students, however, it emphasizes the need for a pedagogical practice that sees literacy as a constructive process, which allows children to live with the practice of social reading and writing.
