NURSE'S CONTRIBUTIONS TO UNIVERSITY TEACHER HEALTH IN CONTEXTS OF PROFESSIONAL BURNOUT

Introduction: The increase in workload and academic pressure has favored the development of burnout among university professors, compromising the mental health and quality of life of these professionals. In this context, the importance of the nurse's role in promoting mental health and preventing professional burnout in the university environment is highlighted. Objective: To analyze the contributions of nurses to the health of university professors in situations of professional burnout. Methodology: This is a descriptive literature review, based on a qualitative approach. Analysis and discussion of results: The analysis of the studies showed a high prevalence of burnout among university professors, associated with workload, pressure for productivity, multiple employment relationships, and lack of institutional support. The main signs identified included emotional exhaustion, anxiety, depersonalization, and low professional accomplishment, negatively impacting health and teaching performance. It was observed that nurses contribute to the early identification of psychological distress, promotion of mental health, and implementation of preventive, educational, and care actions. Furthermore, the need for institutional policies focused on psychological care, reorganization of working conditions, and strengthening of support networks for burnout prevention and occupational health promotion was highlighted. Conclusion: It is concluded that nurses play an important role in preventing burnout and promoting the mental health of university professors, contributing to the development of care, support, and health promotion strategies in the academic environment.
