Abstract

Vulvovaginal candidiasis (VVC) is a highly prevalent fungal infection with a significant impact on women’s health, especially among patients with diabetes mellitus, a condition that favors its development due to immunological and metabolic changes related to hyperglycemia. This study aims to analyze the prevalence of VVC in diabetic women receiving care in Primary Health Care in the municipality of Imperatriz, Maranhão, Brazil, as well as to identify associated factors, clinical characteristics, treatment approaches, and possible technological resources applied to health care. This is an exploratory, descriptive, and field study with a quantitative approach, carried out through the application of printed and online questionnaires. The sample will consist of women diagnosed with diabetes mellitus, aged 18 years or older, who voluntarily agree to participate by signing the Informed Consent Form. It is expected that this study will expand knowledge about the frequency of the infection, its relationship with recurrence, and support prevention measures, early diagnosis, and health education within the scope of primary care.
