Visual impairment is characterized by the inability to see well or to see at all. Individuals with visual impairment may present monocular vision, low vision or subnormal vision, and blindness, which refers to the complete loss of sight. In this context, it becomes essential to examine the body of knowledge produced on visual impairment in relation to sports, in order to gain a broader understanding of the areas already addressed and those that still require attention. The objective of this study is to analyze the knowledge produced on visual impairment in the Revista Brasileira de Ciências do Esporte. The methodology employed consists of a qualitative, bibliographic research approach. The texts were retrieved from the SciELO database and analyzed through three categories: (1) Performance and High-Performance Sports Analysis; (2) Inclusion, Accessibility, and Barriers; and (3) Psychosocial and Functional Aspects. The findings indicate that the knowledge generated on visual impairment in the sports context is diverse, yet still concentrated in specific areas. There is a predominance of research focused on high-performance sports, particularly in Paralympic modalities. Studies on inclusion and accessibility reveal structural, social, and pedagogical barriers that hinder the participation of individuals with visual impairment in physical and educational activities. Research addressing psychosocial and functional aspects suggests that sports practice enhances self-esteem and body perception.
