Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) has shown a rise in reported cases of children and adolescents affected by this condition, suggesting a continuous search for treatments and therapies that can promote emotional, social, and behavioral improvements. In this search, canine-assisted therapy, based on therapy using dogs, has shown relevant results and has become established among the various actions proposed in the treatment of ASD. Seeking to reinforce its social stance, the Military Police of Amazonas, using dogs usually associated with law enforcement, especially in drug searches, is developing canine-assisted therapy activities, thus employing these animals in therapeutic and social functions, getting closer to society and seeking the effectiveness of the fundamentals of human rights. However, the effective implementation of canine-assisted therapy as a tool in the treatment of ASD in the state of Amazonas faces significant challenges that need to be understood and overcome, such as coordination with health and education professionals, proper training of police officers, animal training, and adapting therapy locations to the specific needs of children. Therefore, understanding the importance and challenges of this practice is fundamental for the improvement and consolidation of canine-assisted therapy as a therapeutic strategy in Amazonas.
