This study analyzes the factors that influence the use of artistic and cultural expression as a teaching and learning strategy for mathematics in the early grades of secondary school in the private school system in the municipality of Gravatá, Pernambuco. The methodology adopted in this study was a mixed or quantitative/qualitative approach, in an exploratory manner. The objective of the research was to provide a greater understanding of the phenomenon being investigated, thus allowing the researcher to understand the problem accurately. The use of artistic and cultural expression as a strategy for teaching and learning mathematics in the early grades of elementary school, with an interdisciplinary approach, can be a great ally as a teaching resource, providing significant results in the process of teaching and learning mathematics. Given these considerations, it is clear that when students use interdisciplinarity, with the support of other teachers, together with the students, they create an environment conducive to the practice of actions focused on ethical, civic, and moral values. Based on the data presented, it seems clear that the idea that mathematics is a “bogeyman” no longer exists, as students are already familiar with the content to be taught at the time of presentation by teachers.
