The present study analyzes the psychological illness among military police officers of the Policia Militar do Amazonas (PMAM), a phenomenon that constitutes a multifactorial problem of growing relevance in the field of occupational health. Police activity, marked by continuous exposure to violence, risk, and critical decision-making under pressure, contributes to the development of disorders such as anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress, and burnout syndrome. In addition to occupational factors, institutional elements such as rigid hierarchy, the stigma surrounding psychological vulnerability, and the absence of effective policies for psychological care intensify the state of emotional fragility. In the Amazonian context, geographic adversities, long river journeys, and precarious infrastructure increase occupational stress and reduce access to specialized support. Added to this is socioeconomic vulnerability, characterized by indebtedness and financial instability, which acts as a continuous psychosocial trigger. The impacts of psychological illness transcend the individual, affecting troop operability, institutional legitimacy, and the quality of public security. The study proposes intervention and prevention strategies based on scientific evidence, such as the role of the Psychology Center (CPSI), the expansion of telepsychology, and financial education programs, aiming to strengthen officers’ resilience and ensure the effectiveness of the corporation’s constitutional mission.
