Abstract

This article sought to analyze the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in distance education (DE), exposing its benefits and main challenges. The methodology employed consisted of a qualitative bibliographic review, analyzing studies by authors who highlight how artificial intelligence can personalize teaching, offer individualized feedback, and facilitate adaptive assessment. As a result, the study observed practical applications such as UNIVESP's recommendation systems and chatbots, which illustrate how artificial intelligence is being effectively applied to improve the educational experience of students and support educators. It was found that these tools optimize engagement and pedagogical precision in the virtual environment. In the end, the conclusions show that although there are ethical and data privacy challenges, the insertion of artificial intelligence represents a significant opportunity to improve the quality and efficiency of teaching, making education more accessible, inclusive, and engaging for students.
