This text brings notes and questions that involve the historical context of rural education in Brazil. It discusses multigrade classes and their systematization in rural schools. Actions that strengthen this education, but which are still scarce at the national level. The meetings and forums about the subject, as well as the emergence of degrees in education of/in the field and the contributions to the current reality. The importance of working with art education in this modality, and ends with an experience report, memories of a grandfather who was a teacher in this segment, reporting his experience with regular teaching and art. Teacher and grandfather of multigrade classes in the countryside between 1967 and 1987 in Caculé-BA.
