Objective of investigating the challenges of their practice, the teaching tactics employed to mitigate everyday obstacles, and consequently, to raise the student retention rate. The methodology employed a qualitative approach, conducting semi- structured interviews with EJA teachers. The questions focused on the teaching routine, the barriers encountered, and the pedagogical solutions applied. The results 3highlighted the main difficulties faced by the educators: the lack of proper guidance in public policies, the scarcity of appropriate didactic resources, and the challenge of reconciling the students' personal and professional obligations with the demands of their studies. In response to this scenario, the teachers demonstrated adopting proactive pedagogical strategies, which include customizing teaching to the students' life reality, creating a daily welcoming environment, and incorporating the students' life experiences as a valuable part of the curriculum. In conclusion, the research reveals that, despite the notable challenges inherent to EJA, educators manage to implement effective measures, primarily based on the continuous adaptation of their practice and the promotion of a humanized school environment, crucial elements for the success and retention of young and adult students.
