The objective of this study is to analyze the importance of nurses' knowledge of Brazilian Sign Language (LIBRAS) in promoting a welcoming and humanized care for deaf patients. The methodology used was an integrative literature review, which allowed the synthesis and analysis of relevant studies on the impact of using LIBRAS in the care of deaf patients, utilizing the PICO strategy and based on inclusion and exclusion criteria for articles. The results indicate that knowledge of LIBRAS improves communication between nurses and deaf patients, strengthens the trust bond, and contributes to the humanization of care. However, the lack of proper training in LIBRAS among healthcare professionals still represents a significant barrier, impairing the quality of care and patient satisfaction. The discussion revealed that continuous training in LIBRAS, the presence of interpreters, and the use of assistive technologies are essential strategies to overcome communication challenges and ensure the inclusion of deaf patients in the care process. The conclusion highlights the need to integrate LIBRAS into the academic training of healthcare professionals and institutional health policies, aiming for a more inclusive and accessible care, ensuring the promotion of health in a comprehensive and respectful way for all patients, especially the deaf.
