Childhood is a defining phase that appears in fragments during the continuity of human development, thus being of extreme importance. The objective of this study is to present the characterization of what is defined as a dysfunctional family environment and to expose its negative influence on child psychological development. This study is fundamentally based on Jean Piaget's cognitive theory and Aaron Beck's cognitive-behavioral technique (CBT). It is a basic research, aiming at a bibliographic review of scientific articles and books, operating with a qualitative approach and descriptive research, seeking to identify, record, and analyze the studied subject. In summary, the study investigated the effects of the dysfunctional family environment on child development and proposed CBT interventions to reduce these impacts.
