This article provides an in-depth comparative analysis between lato sensu and stricto sensu postgraduate programs, investigating their application in professional valorization processes within the Military Police of Paraná (PMPR). Based on a theoretical review of the conceptual, structural, and academic differences between these modalities, the study critically analyzes the current scoring system, which equates them, as applied in promotion processes regulated by State Law No. 5940/1969. Using a qualitative, descriptive, and analytical methodology based on bibliographic and documentary research, the study demonstrates the dissonance between the academic effort required by stricto sensu programs and their institutional valuation. It concludes that the equal scoring discourages advanced qualification and scientific production. Therefore, it proposes a reformulation of the scoring system, suggesting the adoption of a tiered model (12 points for a doctorate, 10 for a master's degree, and maintaining 3 points for specialization) to align the PMPR with best practices in human resource management and knowledge valorization, thereby strengthening technical training and institutional innovation.
