Dengue is a systemic febrile arboviral disease that can progress to severe and potentially fatal forms. In Brazil, its occurrence is continuous and peaks during seasonal periods, such as summer and the rainy season, reflecting the typical climate vulnerability of tropical and subtropical countries. Given its high incidence and epidemiological impact, dengue is a major public health concern in the country. This narrative review aimed to inform the population about the importance of knowledge regarding signs and symptoms, modes of transmission, and prevention measures, while highlighting the role of nursing in primary health care. The analysis revealed that health education is essential in dengue control, particularly in primary care, where nurses play a strategic role in guiding the community, supporting early diagnosis, and promoting preventive practices. Educational activities, conducted individually or collectively and in collaboration with the multiprofessional team, strengthen community awareness, support vector control, and encourage changes in daily habits. Therefore, nursing actions, combined with consistent public policies, are central to reducing incidence and combating dengue-related complications, consolidating primary care as a key setting for health promotion and disease prevention.
