This article sought to analyze the relationship between mental health and academic performance in adolescence, considering historical, social, and pedagogical aspects. An integrative literature review was conducted, covering publications published between 2015 and 2025 in databases such as SciELO, LILACS, PubMed/MEDLINE, and Google Scholar. Studies that met the inclusion criteria were selected and analyzed using thematic content analysis. The results indicate that disorders such as depression, anxiety, and ADHD negatively impact cognitive functions, engagement, and academic performance, especially when not treated early. Risk factors include socioeconomic inequality, bullying, academic pressure, and lack of psychosocial support, while family support, positive bonds, and mental health promotion programs act as protective factors. Historically, the topic has evolved from a reductionist perspective to a broader approach that recognizes the interdependence between learning and emotional balance. The conclusion is that integrated public policies between education and health are fundamental to ensuring not only access but also effective conditions for learning and the integral development of adolescents.
