This article aims to report on the pedagogical experience of vertebrae painting as a didactic resource in the teaching and study of human anatomy for students in the health courses, highlighting the relevance of adopting active methodologies in the teaching and learning process. To fulfill the intended goal, a detailed report on the experience was made, with a qualitative and descriptive approach, supported by an extensive literature review. It is possible to observe that the vertebral structure painting brought an active focus, making those students participate in their own knowledge construction, being a part of the process. Thus, the use of painting in the Human Anatomy’s teaching makes the learning process didactic, facilitating the identification of the bones, its bones accidents and its anatomical variation by the students. The use of visual and practical techniques such as this promotes a deeper student involvement, favoring an interactive and dynamic way to study anatomy.
