Breastfeeding is essential for the healthy development of newborns, strengthening the mother-child bond and protecting against various diseases. The World Health Organization recommends exclusive breastfeeding for up to six months, highlighting its benefits for both mother and baby. However, challenges such as misinformation, cultural myths, and lack of support make adherence difficult. In this scenario, the role of the obstetric nurse is essential, offering guidance and support to overcome these barriers, promoting the practice, and improving maternal and child health indicators. This study aimed to identify the role of nursing as a health educator in the context of breastfeeding, with an emphasis on strategies that encourage exclusive breastfeeding for up to six months and continuous breastfeeding for up to two years. A literature review was conducted between February and June 2025, with 17 articles selected. Obstetric nursing contributes through technical guidance and emotional support, strengthening maternal confidence and preventing complications. Educational strategies include discussion groups, individualized care, use of informative materials, family involvement, and monitoring. The use of digital technologies increases access to information and support. It is concluded that the obstetric nurse is a key player in promoting breastfeeding, strengthening maternal and child health and emotional bonds.
