Abstract

Education in the 21st century has undergone significant transformations, driven by the advancement of digital technologies and the need for flexible teaching and learning processes. Distance Education (DE) and remote teaching have emerged as viable alternatives, especially in contexts of global crisis, such as the COVID-19 pandemic. In this scenario, Virtual Learning Environments (VLEs) play a crucial role, with Google Classroom being one of the platforms most widely adopted by educational institutions. This article analyzes the impact of DE in Brazil, focusing on the use of Google Classroom, discussing its advantages, challenges, and pedagogical effectiveness. The methodology used consists of a bibliographic review of Brazilian scientific articles that address education, technology, and VLEs. It is concluded that, despite the challenges, DE and VLEs represent an irreversible trend in contemporary education.
