Abstract

The integral human formation of students is a demand of today's society and is recommended in the guiding documents of all basic education. In this context, all teachers must be engaged in this trend. However, the Physical Education teacher must adopt a critical pedagogy that goes beyond class models that focus only on techniques, rules and ease of movement. The objective of this study was to describe whether physical education classes aimed at 6th year students favor the comprehensive training of these students. For this, field research was carried out in a Public School located in the Municipality of Ruy Barbosa-RN. The subjects researched were 6th year students A and B and the Physical Education teacher. The instrument for data collection was the questionnaire and the data were presented with a qualitative and quantitative approach. It was found that in that School, the importance of Physical Education classes is not limited to learning the content or sports practices to obtain technical skills and knowledge developed under the guidance of a qualified professional. Its importance is associated with intellectual, physical, mental, social and cultural dimensions, among other aspects that reiterate the integral human formation of students.
