The ethnic conflict that is present in the daily lives of Brazilians highlights the lack of cultural appreciation among a people who are mostly ethnically mixed. Bringing this reality to school favors the process of personal development of students and highlights the educator as an agent of change in a daily life that goes beyond the classroom environment. In this sense, teaching materials serve to support the construction of a collective civic consciousness in students, focused on coexistence and the appreciation of differences. Cultural plurality should be worked on as a cross-cutting theme across disciplines, and it is the educator's responsibility to choose teaching materials focused on this practice. There are some books on the market that make valuable contributions in this regard, providing the opportunity for students to learn about, express opinions and question the cultural diversity of the groups that make up a society, in order to encourage healthy coexistence that respects differences.
